2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 Downbeat Critic’s Poll Rising Female Vocalist, runner up in the 2014 Made in NY Jazz Competition, winner of the 2011 Jazzon Alpe-Adria International Composition Competition and nominee in the category of Best Jazz Composition for the 2011 PORIN Awards - the Croatian Music Academy’s honor equivalent to the Grammy Awards in America. Thana Alexa released “Ode to Heroes”, her Harmonia Mundi Jazz Village debut in March 2015, an album of original compositions and vocal arrangements, which bring together elements of jazz, pop and world music.

On her upcoming album “ONA” (meaning "SHE" in Croatian), Thana celebrates the lives of women in all their unique forms and expressions. Her music explores the wild woman spirit - the mind, the soul, the sexuality, the fight within the female and conveys a message of strength and empowerment. Musically, Thana’s compositions are rooted in jazz and incorporate strong elements of world music, fusion and soul.

The album features Antonio Sanchez, Matt Brewer, Carmen Staaf and Jordan Peters who back an impressive ensemble of female special guest artists including Regina Carter, Becca Stevens, Claudia Acuña, Sofia Rei, Nicole Zuraitis, Sarah Charles, ROSA - an all-female vocal ensemble, and poet/ activist Staceyann Chin.

”ONA” Tracks include: The Resistance, Pachamama, Set Free, You Taught Me, Teardrop, Cassandra, He Said She Said, Animal Instinct, and Everybody Wants To Rule The World.

Alexa is an active member of Antonio Sanchez' touring ensemble Migration and has recorded three critically acclaimed albums with the group: New Life, The Meridian Suite, and Lines In the Sand – the latter two for which Alexa contributed lyrics. Alexa also appears on four of guitarist Gene Ess's albums. The first two (Fractal Attraction and Eternal Monomyth) - for which Alexa contributed vocals, compositions and lyrics - won the SESAC Jazz Award in 2015 and 2016.
